My Reason for Writing...

To tell you the story of the origins of this blog, I must go back in time a ways, to the origin of my love of poetry. Ultimately, it is that is where this website finds its roots. I discovered my love of poetry early in song and stories. The lyrical children's stories and Irish ballads of my youth built the foundation for my love of verse. I began experimenting with the concept myself when I was around five. I wrote my first poem, "Why Crayfish are Mute", a narrative poem that tells the story of the king of crayfish losing his voice. From that day on I have been developing my voice and making it stronger and more distinct.
The purpose of this blog is to take the next step in my creative development process. I'd like to think I possess some talent at writing, but I will be better equipped to judge myself by reading the works of other poets and analyzing them in a formal manner. This is not to say that I have not been reading the works of other poets over the course of my admittedly young life. I certainly have. This blog is an attempt to branch out to new poets and to force myself to read deeper and more analytically. When reading for an audience there is some pressure that forces one to read deeper, and that is what I am attempting to utilize to develop my thought and writing process.
That said, I do hope that while I keep this blog you enjoy the work I will be publishing, as well as the works I will be reviewing. I plan on reviewing a range of works including classic and contempory poetry from around the world. My publications on this blog will not be limited to reviews however. Be sure to stick around for posts on new poems I discover, poets, and perhaps even a poetry collection!
Till the next time,
Daniel
